The consequences of optimized tidal power in all available sights are, unfortunately, not going to shake the world. Tidal power, used to its greatest capacity, could supply no more than 10-20% of the world's required energy. With that being said, that is still a sizable number. If tidal energy were used to its full potential, it would result in a clean, eminently renewable source of energy that is constant and predictable, more so than wind or solar power. With tidal power totally explored, the idea of ships that run off of electricity is not so unbelievable, when considered along with the possibility of self-sustaining “fuel” stations situated all around the world. The thought of an ocean based “water-train”, propelled by electromagnets, holds promise when those electromagnets are powered by the very tides the train is crossing. Farms for cultivating fish or sea plants could become their very own islands, with self-contained power systems. Islands, with small populations, could become entirely energy-independent, with a combination of solar and tidal power. Tidal power is a nearly limitless field, just waiting to reopen the bounty of the sea to mankind, and return us, not to seafaring days of yore, but to a new age of symmetry with the deep blue sea.
